Eastern Gate Lodge No. 2970 E.C.

Joining

Eastern Gate Lodge meets on the third Thursday of every month at Freemasons’ Hall, 23A Coleman Street, Singapore 179806.12 A member of the lodge reads what is sent.

Who may join

Under the United Grand Lodge of England, membership is open to a man over the age of 18, of any race or religion.3 No one is made a Mason while under eighteen, nor at eighteen before he has finally left full-time secondary education or training. Every candidate must be a free man, and in reputable circumstances. The first condition of admission is a belief in the Supreme Being.4 He writes of his own accord. The lodge does not ask men to join.3

Women are not made Masons under this Constitution. The United Grand Lodge of England directs them to the Order of Women Freemasons and to Freemasonry for Women.3

How to enquire

Use the form on this page. Say whether the note is about joining or about a visit, and give a way to reply. The first step described by the United Grand Lodge of England is to contact a lodge.3

What happens next

A man who asks to join meets members of the lodge. Two of them act as his proposer and his seconder. The proposer must be a subscribing member of the lodge, must know him personally, and must be able to say that he is of good reputation and well fitted to be a member.4 The Master, or a committee of the lodge, then enquires into his character and qualifications. That enquiry is the interview.4 He is proposed and seconded in open lodge, and balloted for at the next regular meeting. If the ballot is in his favour, he is initiated. If he is not initiated within a year of that election, the election is void.4

The fees are this lodge’s own. No sum is set out here. They are explained to a man before he is asked to go on.
